Underneath the cuisine of the Acadians lies a tumultuous history.
Acadians, now popularly referred to as “Cajuns” (‘Cajun’ is technically a slang word, derived from ‘Acadian’) descended from French colonists who settled in what is now Eastern Canada. During the 17th century, Acadian culture flourished; they began speaking a newly evolved dialect of their native French language, forming communities, cultivating land, and developing original fare. The mid-1700s proved less prosperous for the colonies. Skittish about the French-Indian War, the British government, which had gained control of the region, deported thousands of Acadians from the area. Most were sent to the American colonies, while others were deported to the Caribbean, England, or France. The community of displaced Acadians migrated to present day Louisiana, developing what we recognize as the vibrant Cajun culture in the region. Acadian food, then and now, presents a blend of French and soul food widely beloved not only in Louisiana, but around the world—including Omaha. Avoli Osteria was opened by Dario & Amy Schicke in July 2013.
Avoli is a Northern Italian restaurant, located in the historic Omaha neighborhood of Dundee. We hope a dining experience at Avoli will remind you of a trip to Italy or help you imagine what eating in Italy would be like. When we began dreaming and planning a new restaurant, we wanted to recreate an authentic Italian experience. We wanted to give diners an opportunity to possibly try something they may not have had before. We felt Omaha needed an Italian restaurant with a modern twist. Avoli’s wine list contains only wines you find in the Northern regions of Italy, the food consists of many local ingredients and what we can’t find locally, we import from Italy.
Dario and I have lived in different places, Dario is from Sarajevo, Bosnia and I grew up in Kearney, Nebraska. We met in Munich, Germany where we were married. We moved to New York city where we lived for many years until September 11, 2001. We have been in Omaha ever since. We opened our first restaurant, Dario’s Brasserie, in 2006. Dario is a French classically trained chef, he attended the French Culinary Institute in New York.
We are proud to call Omaha our home and so happy we chose to start our lives over in this community. The city of Omaha is amazing, it’s been extremely supportive and welcoming, we look forward to being here for years to come. We hope you love Avoli as much as we do.
The name Avoli comes from combining our daughters names, Ava & Olivia.

Panda, Inc. was founded in 1981 by Alan D’Agosto when he purchased his four original Arby’s® stores. Through the years, Panda has grown from those four original stores to more than 15 stores in the Nebraska and Iowa market.
With growth have come opportunities. Many of our earliest employees have moved up the ladder to become managers and district managers…and still other employees have been with Panda, Inc. for nearly 30 years! The family atmosphere and system of rewards and incentives have helped us attract (and retain) quality employees. And we believe it is those quality employees who have been responsible for our growth.
With plans to add more Arby’s® locations to the company, Panda’s growth translates into many opportunities for qualified and dedicated employees. And as an organization, we are committed to the development and advancement of all our employees. Don’t miss your opportunity to grow with us!

Cold Stone Creamery® was founded in 1988, by married couple Donald and Susan Sutherland in the college town of Tempe, Arizona. The Sutherlands were ice cream fanatics and traveled all over the world trying to find the perfect ice cream. Unsatisfied with the ice cream they discovered, when they returned the Sutherlands set out to open a new ice cream shop that would be far different than the prepackaged, chalk-like ice cream they could get in the supermarket, or the prepackaged ice cream that arrived in vats at their local ice cream shops in town. They wanted ice cream that was made in-house, on the very same day their customers came in to get a sundae or cone. The quest for the perfect ice cream franchise opportunity is the reason Cold Stone Creamery was founded, and it’s why Cold Stone Creamery continues to enjoy rising popularity.
“What made us unique when Cold Stone Creamery was founded is what continues to make us unique today, which is the fact that we make our ice cream fresh,” says Dr. Maya Warren, Tastemaster™ with Cold Stone Creamery. “What the Sutherlands discovered in the 1980s still persists among a lot of our competitors, who bring their ice cream in tubs or vats, and the ice cream sits until they sell it or it goes bad. This key difference is why Cold Stone Creamery has such a heavenly taste, that perfect ice cream taste that you want when you’re in the mood for ice cream: we make the ice cream in the same store where you come in to get it.”

Corkscrew Wine and Cheese was established by husband and wife Corey & Anne Keith in 2005. We wanted to bring the two concepts of a wine shop and wine bar under one roof. You could take the multipage business plan and distill it down into three words: Starbucks meets wine.
Corey and Jessica Keith, a brother and sister team launched the second Corkscrew location in the newly developed Blackstone neighborhood. Sharing the same values, commitment, and loyalty; not to mention love of wine; the Blackstone Corkscrew was developed and opened for business in early 2015.
At Corkscrew we want to create that third place outside of home and work where you live your life and have a social experience. Come in & enjoy!

WHAT IS NEAPOLITAN PIZZA?
“Neapolitan” refers to anything done in the fashion of Naples, a port city in southern Italy. The tradition of Neapolitan pizza is preserved today by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, or Vera. This organization, headquartered in Naples, certifies that pizzerias all over the world uphold the traditions of Neapolitan pizza making.
The pizza is cooked in a wood-burning oven at about 800 degrees.
The dough is kneaded by a low-speed mixer. The crust is stretched by hand, and the pizzas are cooked in 90 seconds.

Dario’s Brasserie is the culmination of a long time dream of chef/owner Dario Schicke who grew up in Sarajevo and left his home in 1992 at the start of the Bosnian War. He ended up in Germany where he met his wife, Amy, who hails from Kearney Nebraska. They moved to New York City where Dario opened a business that specialized in Exotic and Belgian Beers.
Finding a passion for Belgian Beers, Dario wanted to learn to cook with them. So he enrolled at The French Culinary Institute in New York, training in classical French cooking.
In 2001 after the devastation of the World Trade Centers on 9/11, Dario and his family decided to move to Nebraska and start over in Omaha. Dario worked at the French Café and The Market Basket before opening his own restaurant.
Dario’s Brasserie opened December 31, 2006 in the heart of Omaha’s historic Dundee neighborhood. A Brasserie, pronounced (Brahs-uh-REE) is an informal French café that serves beer, wine and simple hearty food. Dario’s is a European style restaurant with banquette seating and gentle lighting that give an intimate and elegant feel. Our cozy and comfortable bar area is great for a drink or causal dining experience.
Dario’s European upbringing, passion for Belgian food and beer, and his French training all contribute to the exceptional food at Dario’s. The highest quality and freshest ingredients, along with the latest cooking techniques are combined to make your dining experience memorable.
Dario’s, fine food in a friendly atmosphere.

Justin has consistently been involved in community service from a young age, participating in Habitat for Humanity as well as homeless shelters and feeding the homeless programs. This service background was fostered by his parents and led him to take a commission in the Peace Corps where he was stationed for 2 years. This experience was formative not only in his love of community service but also in giving Justin a very direct and tangible love for simple, flavorful, and local food and beverage. Justin was able to live amongst and experience a food culture that has long been forgotten in America where families are responsible for their food and beverage from start to finish. During his stay in Easter Europe, Justin was also able to travel widely, especially when joined by his brother, Aaron Halbert. Together they were able to experience a wide variety of cuisines. The very simple and visceral food cultures of Eastern Europe reignited Justin’s desire to work in the food industry.
Upon his return to Omaha, Justin sought out the advice and mentorship of his uncle, Ron Samuelson. His question for his uncle, “where should I start in the restaurant industry?” Ron’s advice was to start from the very bottom to gain a very humble and diligent view of how restaurants work. Justin took a position as a busser at P.F. Chang’s and had the opportunity to work nearly every front of the house position available. Within a year, Justin applied for and was offered a position as Assistant Manager for Kona Grill. This position, more than any other, laid the groundwork for Justin to understand the ins and outs of restaurant management and efficiency. Using this gained knowledge, Justin was able to move to General Management for Brix at Village Pointe. Working alongside the owner and creator of Brix, Justin’s knowledge base was expanded to include lease negotiations, restaurant design, human resources, proforma creating, etc.
Aaron Halbert has 16 years of experience in the restaurant industry. His earlier experience, mostly on the gulf coast of Florida, taught him how everything in restaurants works from the ground up. He started as a dish washer and advanced into bussing, bar backing, serving and bartending. This helped mold Aaron and taught him how each different facet of every position compliments and relies on the others.
After working the high-volume tourist seasons and spring breaks in Florida, he had a short stint in Omaha as a server and bartender at M’s pub where Ron Samuelson was able to guide him into focusing on how to improve his skills. This short period enabled Aaron to save enough money to travel internationally for the first time to go see his brother, Justin Halbert. This trip, as they were traveling through Romania, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic sparked interest in learning more about wine. The complete lack of familiarity with the styles, laws, and practices of these countries was enthralling.
Working just over a year with the Bin 36 group solidified in his mind the need to work through the Court of Master Sommeliers program. Deciding to leave Chicago to be near family again, Justin and Aaron bought a house together and both of them set out in different avenues toward the same goal of owning a restaurant (or a few). Justin went with the corporate management path, while Aaron focused on the service side.
Over the next three years, Aaron worked alongside Master Sommelier Jesse Becker and renowned chef Paul Kulik at The Boiler Room. These two mentors gave him the direction and resources to pass through the introductory and Certified Sommelier tests. After passing and taking stock on how to use his skills in a place more similarly aligned with his personality, he shifted over to Lot 2 Restaurant and Wine Bar. Working with old friends Brad and Johanna Marr, they, along with chef Joel Mahr, were able to build one of the most visited and talked about programs in the city.

Durham Tree Tops Restaurant
Everyone knows about the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, but did you know there’s a restaurant where you can dine among the treetops of the world’s largest indoor rain forest? You’ll see Durham TreeTops Restaurant shortly after passing through the zoo’s main entrance. If you arrive hungry, stop in for lunch right away. But we recommend walking around for a while first to build up an appetite. If you’re visiting in the summer, the restaurant will be a welcome air-conditioned reprieve from the infamous Nebraska heat and humidity. The restaurant is cafeteria-style with different sections to peruse. You can pick up a salad, cold sandwich, fruit cup, or other treat from the refrigerated cases, or visit the grill for a hot sandwich. But the real star of this show is the stunning dining area. You’ll seat yourself in the wide-open, airy, bright space. Get there at a non-peak time if you want a front row seat at the giant windows overlooking the Lied Jungle. And this is what you’ll see from the TreeTops: a breathtaking view of the indoor rain forest. If you’re lucky you’ll get to see some of the animals playing and walking around below. But even if they aren’t cooperating, the plants and water are soothing and absolutely lovely. You might find yourself distracted from your meal by the silly antics of the animals, like these brown handed gibbons in their tree right outside of the big window.

Let our Catering Family take care of yours
In 1951, Eddie Galas founded Eddie’s Bar and Cafe, a small sandwich shop and bar in South Omaha. Throughout the years, we have stayed true to Eddie’s vision of continually expanding and remodeling our location, menus, and services to meet the growing needs of our customers.
Omaha area’s finest catering establishment
The business reborn
In 1985, Eddie received the Nebraska Restaurant Association’s most prestigious award, the Mary Lutz Trophy, as the Restaurateur of the Year due to his persistence in transforming his little cafe into a South Omaha landmark. This award was especially meaningful because Frank Kawa, founder of Johnny’s Cafe, was Eddie’s mentor as a boy and also the first recipient of the award.
Although fire destroyed the establishment in 1987, the business rose from the ashes and was resurrected as a catering business, both on-site and off-site.
Eventually, the business was sold to Kris and Cheryl Galas who have passionately provided customers throughout the area with tasty catering services ever since. In March 1999, we purchased the Millard Social Hall and Eddie’s Social Hall which are more flexible to suit your needs. Off-site or on-site, Eddie’s catering strives to make your event memorable with savory cuisine and remarkable service.

Fernando’s Café & Cantina
A family-oriented Mexican restaurant, Fernando’s was established in 1993 and is known for its commitment to preparing authentic Sonoran-style Mexican recipes, cooked by those who know it best, Mario, Martin, Pasqual and Antonio, and served by the friendliest staff around.
Even this far from the border there’s no reason to settle for anything less than the best in Mexican fare. From our made-from-scratch sauces, seasoned meats, and signature recipes, to every blend of margarita you can imagine, you’ll think you’ve taken a trip to the Sonoran capitol of Jalisco, Mexico, where our recipes originated. No passport required. Our customers tell us our pico de gallo with fresh-baked flour chips couldn’t be tastier.
All of our food is prepared fresh daily, using as much local product as possible. Before dawn our kitchen staff is busy preparing, seasoning and chopping all the ingredients used in our dishes. Unlike Tex-Mex fare, the emphasis in Sonoran cooking is not on being spicy hot but, we have found, is like a bouquet of rich and varied flavors. You want to spice it up? Just pour on our famous hot sauce, made with a special mix of peppers, chiles and tomato sauce. No need to ask…it’s on every table, ready to satisfy.
Come for the food. Come back for the total experience! Excellent fresh, authentic recipes, served in a casual, warm atmosphere, are Fernando’s mission and promise to you!

Who would have imagined that a little Omaha, Nebraska, pizza shop opened more than 43 years ago would become the legendary pizza chain it is today? To be honest, we did. We knew we had the secret to success – a commitment to excellence, an obsession with great-tasting pizza, dedicated people, and a desire to have fun.
Today, we continue to serve up great taste by the slice in more than 600 restaurants in more than 40 states.
A Godfather’s Pizza is a pizza unlike any other. That’s because it’s made the way it should be – with an incredible crust, delicious veggies, hearty meats, and a ton of 100% real cheese. And the best part? At Godfather’s Pizza, you’re the boss. First, choose from our thick, rich, original crust; our buttery, pan-style golden crust; or our light and crispy thin crust. Then, tell us what veggies and meats to pile on. Not sure what you want? You can choose from a selection of tried-and-true specialty pizzas that will leave your taste buds in absolute awe. After that, we’ll take it from there and smother the whole thing with 100% real cheese for a pizza that’s absolutely irresistible.
Did your mouth start to water a little bit? Yep. Ours did, too.

Gorat’s Steak House
Gorat’s Steak House has been an Omaha tradition for more than 70 years. Founded in 1944 by Louis and Nettie Gorat, and subsequently operated by their son, Louis, Jr. – affectionately known as “Pal” – and his family, Gorat’s has catered to generations of Omaha families and visitors alike, proudly serving quality steaks, Italian specialties and other local favorites.
A longtime Omaha restaurateur purchased Gorat’s in the fall of 2012. After an updating of the interior and kitchen, the restaurant reopened in December of 2012. The menu continues the tradition of local Italian steak house fare with the addition of new favorites such as signature entrees, tantalizing salads and freshly prepared pastas.
A frequent stop of the “Wizard of Wall Street” Warren Buffett, Gorat’s has hosted celebrities and dignitaries from around the world. Whether you are a new visitor or someone whose family has previously enjoyed the Gorat’s Steak House tradition, we welcome you and wish you buon appetito!

In 1991, Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill opened in Lincoln’s Historic Haymarket District, bringing the state of Nebraska its first brew-pub. The demand for our from-scratch cooking, our hand-crafted ales and our teamwork approach to service was immediate. Over the years this demand fueled numerous expansions for the restaurant. A second Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill location opened in 2000 in South Lincoln and our third in Omaha in 2006. In addition we were delighted to open Lazlo’s sister restaurant, FireWorks, in Lincoln in 2002.
Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill offers creative comfort food served with a contemporary flair. Earth tone colors and architectural elements feel stylish without stealing the focus from the food and casual atmosphere. Each restaurant includes cozy booths, fire places, outdoor patios, handsome bars, happy hour specials and popular children’s menu. In addition, Lazlo’s offers free wi-fi, call ahead seating, private dining and take-out service.
Our food is lovingly hand-crafted from scratch with fresh ingredients, and cooked on our custom-grill fueled solely by hickory wood. Our burgers are made from 100% pure chuck ground fresh right here in our kitchen. Our steaks are USDA Choice, Omaha Steaks® aged 21 days for maximum tenderness. We buy only the freshest fish and have it flown in daily. For the best flavors around, our soups are made from scratch and simmer for hours. This attention to detail is what gives our food its bold, signature flavors.
And speaking of signature flavors, Lazlo’s serves handcrafted ales straight from our in-house brewery, Empyrean Brewing Company. Empyrean Brewing Company, founded in 1997, is Nebraska’s largest micro-brewery and was recognized at the prestigious World Beer Cup in Seattle with a silver medal for “Luna Sea ESB.”
Dine at Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill and let us exceed your expectations through the use of premium ingredients, from-scratch recipes, and outstanding service.

The owner and head chef of Pasta Amore, Lillo “Leo” Fascianella, was born in San Cataldo, Sicily in 1956. Leo’s parents moved the family to America in 1972 in search of a better life. They settled in Omaha, Nebraska to join relatives who had previously immigrated to a part of town known as “Little Italy.”
Leo started out shining shoes and eventually got a job washing dishes at what was then a popular fine-dining establishment called “The Golden Apple.” The owner and chef took Leo under his wing and nurtured his passion for cooking along with his desire for a successful life. Over time Leo met established chefs from all over the world and worked in restaurants in New York and Chicago. Eventually he returned to Omaha and opened Pasta Amore in 1986.
One year after opening Pasta Amore, Leo met and later married Patricia. That was almost 30 years ago and together they have much to be proud of. They have a thriving business and three grown children who have all contributed to the continued success of the family business.
Leo considers himself an artist and refers to his creations as “edible paintings.” His love of cooking is equally matched by his loyal customers. Many patrons have become close friends and continue to dine at Pasta Amore on a regular basis. The restaurant is more popular than ever. Lines still form on a Friday nights, especially during the summer months, and several customers agree that the large outdoor patio is by far the best in town.
The Fascianellas also own a small farm. They grow a variety of crops and raise chickens, making Pasta Amore one of the original “farm-to-table” establishments in the metro area. They use only the finest, freshest ingredients in their award-winning recipes and their famous, mouth-watering pastas are made the “old-school,” or rather, the “old-country” way — on pasta machines imported from Sicily.
Leo Fascianella was recently awarded the “Golden Toque” which is one of the highest awards any Chef can get in the country. Only a select few across the United States receive this very prestiges award.

Roha Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar
The Story of Two Texans! Roja Mexican Grill opened in Nebraska in 2004. But two of its owners hail from Texas. They met seemingly by fate, and an undeniable fondness for mouth-watering fare. One, a culinary explorer from Austin, traveled the region, sampling dishes from the Yucat án Peninsula to Baja California. The other, born and raised in Houston, developed a palate for border-style cuisine at a frighteningly young age when instead of strained peas, his mother mistakenly fed him hefty spoonfuls of homemade salsa verde. When the two met, mariachi filled the air and Roja Mexican Grill was born.
Roja is influenced by the border-style flavors of Texas and Mexico. We’re especially proud of our homemade flour tortillas, refried beans, chile con carne, fajitas and cheese & onion enchiladas, to name a few. Omaha has made us famous for our basic house lime margaritas, which you can enjoy at the best price during Happy Hour or Margarita Monday. Our vibrant atmosphere is true to our namesake, which imparts a deep sense of fiery hot energy to complement to our Tex-Mex cuisine.

eat together – Stirnella is a refined gastro pub with global influences that serves approachable food inspired by local and seasonal ingredients. we offer domestic and international varietals of wine, craft beer and sophisticated cocktails.
Chef Matthew Moser was born and raised in Omaha, NE and developed a passion for food and cooking at a young age. After graduating in 2005 from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, OR, Chef Moser moved back to Omaha where he worked at the nationally recognized French Café. It was there that Chef Moser refined his traditional French techniques and was quickly promoted to Sous Chef. To further advance his culinary knowledge, Chef Moser accepted a position at V Mertz, a contemporary fine dining restaurant in Omaha where he acquired a passion for farm-to-table ingredients that still strongly influence his menus today. In 2009, Chef Moser joined Omaha based Flagship restaurant group as Executive Chef at Blue Sushi Sake Grill. He successfully opened two new additions to the restaurant group in Fort Worth, TX and Denver, CO. In 2012, Moser became Executive Chef at Flagship’s Plank Seafood Provisions where he played a large roll in the creation and design of the menu. After spending two and a half years working at Plank, Chef Moser decided to leave Flagship and open up a concept of his own in Omaha’s Old Market called The Market House. The Market House opened in June of 2015 and was quickly recognized as one of Omaha’s best new restaurants. The menu reflected the innovative culinary skills of Chefs Matthew Moser and Ben Maides. In January 2015, an unfortunate gas explosion caused the restaurant to catch fire which ultimately destroyed the space. Chef Moser spent the next year working on his newest concept, Stirnella. Stirnella opened it’s doors in February of 2017. The restaurant’s menu and atmosphere reflect Chef Moser’s passion for his Nebraska roots and desire to create new and interesting culinary experiences for his guests. His seasonal menus are familiar but with unique ingredients and preparations that make them stand out among their more traditional counterparts.
Matt Carper was born and raised in Glenwood, IA; a small but robust farming community in Southwest Iowa. At a young age, Matt was unsure what he wanted to do, attending classes at University of Nebraska at Omaha seemed like the right thing. But Matt needed something more so he joined the Iowa Army National Guard, in part to pay for his education, but also for the adventure. Upon returning from a deployment to Afghanistan in 2005, Matt worked for several well know steakhouses (801 Steak and Chop at Paxton and Omaha Prime) in Omaha, NE. It was there while going to college that Matt realized he had a passion for the restaurant industry. Matt’s wife to be, Carrie introduced him to some amazing people. One of which worked at Blue Sushi Sake Grill in Northwest Omaha, Omaha’s premiere sushi restaurant. The evolution of sushi was making a big splash in Omaha and Matt recognized that. With the help of Matt’s wife’s best friend, Sara Cemer, he decided to adventure off and jump on the wave. In 2007 while finishing his Master’s degree, Matt began what would be a large portion of his restaurant career. Matt managed several restaurants for Flagship Restaurant Group from Blue Sushi Sake Grill, Bianco Restaurante Italiano, Baby Blue Sushi Sake Grill, Plank Seafood Provisions and Flagship Commons, Omaha’s first food hall. Matt Carper met Matt Moser at Blue Sushi Sake Grill and recognized his passion for high quality food and dedication to being a creative chef. Their working relationship continued for several years before joining forces to create one of Omaha’s best seafood restaurants, Plank Seafood Provisions. Moser and Carper helped design the menus and develop Plank with Flagship Restaurant Group. While at Plank, they always talked about other concepts they thought would do well in Omaha. Moser took the leap and opened The Market House in Omaha’s Historic Old Market. With the gas line explosion in the Old Market, The Market House was on standby for Matt Moser. Early in the summer of 2016 Moser asked Carper to review this new concept idea. Carper was immediately drawn in and the vision was painted. Carper asked Moser where Blackstone was and if he could see the space, he had honestly never been to Blackstone. Late in 2016 Carper was asked to be a part of what is now of course his favorite project to date. But don’t worry, there will be more…

Sullivan’s has been in business since 1954. “I’ve owned it 13 years and well now of course in the new location, a new start. The shuffleboard table came from the 49’r lounge and is fully restored. The statues came with the place when I bought it but we suspect they came from a Liquor distributor back in the day. The back bar is a Brunswick art deco piece that came from the German manufacturer in the 30’s. The Painting of the Boxer is the famous John L Sullivan . A bare knuckled boxer from the 20’s and 30’s before they used gloves. Special Thanks to the Artists Melanie Judkins and Sarah Root from Black Squirrel Tatoo for John L Sullivan painting. We’re a long time Omaha St Patrick’s favorite. We provide exceptional service and our staff are all professionals.” – Dan Houlihan, Owner

Tanner’s Bar & Grill
The history of Tanner’s starts in the 1980s in town of Atchison, Kan., a little college town in the Northeast corner of the Sunflower State. Grandpa Tanner had spent years quenching the thirsts of his friends and neighbors in the town where he grew up. However, he had his eye on the big city and decided to settle in Johnson County, Kan.
He envisioned a bar and grill where the service was always friendly, the food was tasty, the beer ice cold, and you could find Grandpa himself behind the bar serving and entertaining the guests day and night.
The first Tanner’s Bar & Grill opened on 87th Street in Lenexa, Kan., in 1985, with Grandpa Tanner and his friends building it from the ground up. From the very beginning, Tanner’s Bar and Grill in Lenexa was a place where Johnson County residents from near and far traveled for happy hour, to watch the local boys earn another victory on TV and to relax in a friendly atmosphere.
Word traveled fast about what a great place Tanner’s was to visit. Grandpa Tanner was serving up tasty food, and Tanner’s Bar and Grill was THE place to hang out and watch the big games on the big screens. It wasn’t long before people in other parts of the city wanted Grandpa Tanner’s famous Chicken Lips©, Boogas©, and steak specials closer to their homes, too.
So Grandpa Tanner and friends opened a new location on 119th Street (right off 69 highway) a few years later. Not to leave out his friendly Missouri neighbors who had come across State Line so many times to visit the Kansas locations, Grandpa Tanner set out to provide even more refreshment to the Show-Me side of the big city. He added another Tanner’s Bar & Grill in historic Waldo at 74th Terrace and Broadway.tanners
Now Grandpa Tanner was a busy man, but he made sure he visited all the locations as much as possible to make sure the Chicken Lips©, the Boogas©, and the beer met his satisfaction. Grandpa Tanner was pleased when he saw all the people coming to all the locations to hang out with their neighbors and friends. Never one for idle hands, Grandpa Tanner kept on building Tanner’s Bar and Grills, trying to keep up with the demands of the people.
He added locations on 143rd Street, Platte City, MO., Gladstone, Mo., and Shawnee, Kan. Grandpa Tanner’s dream of being “The Friendly Purveyors of Good Times, Fine Food and The Pause That Refreshes” had become a reality. Grandpa Tanner had come to the big city and done well.
Other towns are seeing how the good the great people of Kansas City have it, and are demanding a Tanner’s of their own. Tanner’s Bar and Grill now has two locations in Omaha, Neb., and one in Middleton, Wis.
Grandpa Tanner doesn’t make it around to all the locations as often as he would like. Driving around the big city all the time is a big task. But he still likes to stop in one of the Tanner’s location every single day of the week, just to make sure everything is up to his high standards.
The next time you visit Tanner’s Bar and Grill, take a peek behind the bar. You just might see Grandpa Tanner, serving up drinks and chatting with the customers, just as he’s done for more than 25 years.

It was clear to them that their business would soon be eclipsed by the large supermarkets springing up across Lincoln. The landmark which had stood for a dozen years, had to go. In its place, armed with three dozen pizza pans, a recipe that had been in Mrs. Weiler’s family for years, and a generous amount of trepidation, they decided to open a pizza business.
They took in $60 their first day, and as the restaurant’s reputation grew, patrons began to gather and watch through the window as the pizzas were made. They would stand in line for an hour or more to sample the pizza and pasta specialties created in the original restaurant.
There was just one location then and no trip to the city was complete with out stopping to eat at Valentino’s!
Valentino’s HistoryAbout three years after the 1971 purchase of Valentino’s, members of the Messineo and Alesio families carefully formulated plans to expand into additional locations.
Through controlled expansion, and an elaborate system of quality controls, Valentino’s steadily grew. In 1990, Valentino’s opened its first Valentino’s To-Go location, offering take out service only. These stores were an immediate success. Today there are more than 18 successful To-Go locations operating.
Today, Valentino’s has expanded to 35 restaurant locations in 4 different states. The wait is seldom longer than fifteen minutes now, but the recipes and meticulous preparation steps remain.
The Secret to Success
Valentino’s success began with those wonderful family recipes that were passed on when the business changed hands in 1971. However, there’s more than recipes to this story. The highest quality food, reasonable prices, immaculately clean and comfortable restaurants, genuinely friendly service, and a written corporate creed which says that “community service is as important as the quality of the food”, have helped keep Val’s tremendously popular.
Val’s has shipped pizza to every corner of the continental United States; to university alumni gatherings in Washington D.C.; to hungry, nostalgic ex-collegians in Arizona who want a delectable Christmas present; as well as to Alaska and Japan.
Carrying on the Tradition
Valentino’s success is a reflection of its owners and employees and their commitment to excellence. Valentino’s approach is a lot like our way of life here in Nebraska. It’s striving to always do the best job you can and carry on the tradition.
